Fri Mar 14 2008: Eels song used in TV commercial
E has always denied ongoing requests to use EELS songs in commercials: "I absolutely refuse to license my music for commercial television, but I'm okay with authorizing use of my songs for public service announcements and motion picture soundtracks."
However, from time to time Eels songs are used for advertisements without E's permission. Just think of the incident in 2001 when a Spanish shopping center used "I like birds" in a horrific manner. (Read all about it HERE) These days another shockingly bad commercial, using "Souljacker Part I", is being aired all the time in the U.K. To watch this mess either click HERE or HERE.

Meanwhile, the "An evening with Eels" tour is well under way, giving pleasure to fans all over Europe and, soon, to folks in Australia and the U.S., too. After inviting the Queen to his gig in London (a Queen lookalike eventually attended), E recently sent a letter to George W. Bush, inviting him to the upcoming concert in Washington, D.C. Read this very ironic letter HERE.

In other news: The documentary about E and his father, "Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives", has been nominated for the Royal Television Society Award (RTS). For more information on this subject and the full list of nominees click HERE.

The one thing we can be sure of is that it is going to be very interesting for all Eels (and non-Eels) fans. Need one more prove? Listen to E's interview with BBC Radio 2 HERE.

You may be wondering why our friends over at BTC/Jeannie's Diary are not accessible at the moment. Webmaster Mike has told us that "the entire database was wiped out, either by nefarious means or simply by my webhost's carelessness when they were upgrading their servers. [...] The board's information is GONE, so it looks like we'll be starting from scratch again." Although these are quite dissapointing news we can tell you that this awesome place of fan gathering will be back soon.

Mon Oct 29 2007: Audio-Book postponed (or even cancelled?)
Disappointing news coming in. The publisher of the once-planned audio-book of E's upcoming book "Things The Grandchildren Should Know" (Little Brown Book Group) has informed us that the release of said audio version has been postponed to January 2009. "There is a slight chance that it may come forward but it doesn't seem likely. We are keen for E to read it but he's not. He has suggested a couple of high profile names but nothing has happened on that front yet. We feel it does need someone high-profile and if these issues can't be resolved we may abandon it altogether."
This is disappointing because something very special might have come out of that. The release date of the book itself is still in January, as far as we know. Check back for more news or wait for announcements from the official Eels site.

Thu Oct 25 2007: Documentary Information

Another great news coming in. Crtl+C/Crtl+V from the Official Eels site:

Wed Sep 12 2007: E & Lucinda Williams
Last Sunday E joined Lucinda Williams, Butch and The Chet on stage at the El Rey theater in L.A. Together they performed Lucinda's "Fancy Funeral" as well as "Railroad Man" and "Sixteen Tons". Reactions from fans are, as expected, very positive:

  • "E's appearance was a delightful surprise. Lucinda introduced him by saying that she didn't even know his real name, but that he was one of our best singer/songwriters. Then E played keyboards for one of her songs. Then E took up the guitar and Lucinda did backup vocals on a sloppy but fun version of the country song 16 Tons. Then Lucinda and most of the musicians left the stage. E played a very nice version of Railroad Man."
  • "I thought E was great though...he was an amazing guitarist, and I really enjoyed the Eels song that he sang"
  • "The Merle Travis tune Sixteen Tons led by E was amazing; E's song Railroad Man was great."
We also found a PHOTO OF E from the show. If you have any material (photos, videos, bootlegs, reports) from this very special evening, please contact us.

Sat Sep 01 2007: More news regarding E & Butch on stage
Details are coming in about E and Butch on stage with LUCINDA WILLIAMS. E will be playing with Lucinda and Butch on the 9th of September at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. If you live in the L.A. area you might check out this very rare opportunity. They will be joined by Robbie Krieger (guitarist from The Doors) and The Chet, who will continue to be in the band on Lucinda's European tour dates in November.

Fri Aug 10 2007: E & Butch together on stage
Some phenomenal news coming in, especially for fans in California. The long time Eels member (and finest drummer on earth) Jonathan "Butch" Norton and E are finally reunited again, even if only for an evening. These days Butch is working with an artist by the name of LUCINDA WILLIAMS, and they are touring right now. Sun Apr 15 2007: Eels on Shrek 3 Soundtrack
After "My Beloved Monster" and "I Need Some Sleep" the Eels once again contribute a song for the successful Shrek franchise. At least that's what we here from the famous movie site JoBlo.com, which had a SHREK 3 SET VISIT a few weeks ago:

"What song are you using in the opening sequence?
Warner: The song at the beginning is an Eels song that they wrote for our film, that’s really great.
Miller: We’re thrilled to have it in there.
Warner: Yeah, we’re thrilled to have it in there. The big challenge of writing a song for the beginning of this film is Shrek’s doing something that he doesn’t like, so it’s not a happy, everything-is-great song, but you want it to be upbeat and fun. But he turned around and was one of the few people who was able to nail it right out of the gate, so he did a great job."

We are all looking forward to this. This is great. But let us remind you, that this is no official news until its confirmed by the official Eels site.
