You’ve recently discoverd our most beloved band and you want to find out more about the online opportunities to enjoy the world of EELS even better? Then you’ve come to the right place. This page will introduce you to the several places on the internet where you can explore the band’s music and history and will furthermore concern itself with the current situation of the online fan-community. Obviously, the following is not a complete collection of sources, so please feel free to contact us if you feel we’ve missed something important.
THE place to be for an Eels fan to share thoughts and opinions, to discuss releases and to talk about rumours is the inofficial message board, called ESTRANGED FRIENDS. It is the only place where you can talk to fans from all around the world about your favourite Eels subjects. And believe us, there are many lovely and very welcoming people on this board. It was this group of Eels fans who made the very cool second fan-tribute album (“We are going to stop pretending that we didn’t break your songs”) and helped in the making of the most recent tribute double-album called “Songjackers”. Moreover, you can discuss almost any topic. Forget about the (now dead) official message board where one couldn’t imagine talking about such issues like setlists, unreleased material, “Bad Dude in Love” and some other rarities. In short, go there and join us quacking about Eels!
If you are from a German-speaking country there is a very nice alternative to the international message board. The EELSFAN.DE MESSAGE BOARD is a very cosy and welcoming place to talk about the band with the most incredible people from Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Another very recently formed group of Eels fans can be found on our very own FACEBOOK PAGE, which is – if you’re on Facebook – a must, as it combines news about the band with fan interaction. Join us!
As you probably know, the Eels have become famous for performing their songs in very different styles on every other tour. It is just remarkable how versatile E and his ever-changing group of musicians have been in the last 15 years of the band’s existence. To explore all the different Eels tours visit one of the best fansites, EELS.NL. On this site all Eels performances are documented with as much detail as possible. They are “trying to get a complete list of all known Eels performances and completing the lists with with setlists, reviews and pictures.”
Another very informative and impressive fansite is a place for Eels collectors, the EELS DISCOGRAPHY. Although it hasn’t been updated for 2 years it is still worth a look, as it is just incredible to explore all the different releases of every E/Eels productions throughout the course of the last 20 years. In a similar manner, you might enjoy an ongoing project that aims to collect as much information concerning Eels songs as possible. THE GALAXY offers a very detailed list of every song E has ever written and furthermore provides an interactive role for the users to add information and take part in annual Eels song polls.
Furthermore, we want to recommend a very well-written and informative fan blog to you. It offers personal insight into the band and is also a good place to check out the latest Eels news: THE ROCK HARD TIMES. For example, it recently published a very concise overview of the Eels’ catalog, a good Beginner’s Guide to the Eels.
Let us also not forget about the incredible website EELSFAN.DE, which features news, downloads, lyrics and much much more for all German-speaking fans.
Also, we don’t want to forget about our very own fansite. We think RockingEels.com is very helpful way to get to know the band and to introduce your friends into the music of E. The strongest and most important feature we can offer is the updated news section, which often features news items which are not mentioned on the official €€L$ website. To stay informed you also have the possibility to follow us on TWITTER or on FACEBOOK. Besides our news section, we offer further information about all things Eels and have several fan collaborations. Also, you might want to check out our YOUTUBE CHANNEL, in which you can find several rarities. Our substantial download section had to be taken down after the band management forced us to do so. Read THIS STATEMENT to learn more about this ridiculous matter, in which E also said that because of RockingEels.com “the band will never again perform a song live before it has come out on a record.” An insane and offensive statement.
This brings us to the officially managed websites on the net. We won’t promote these, as you can find them literally everywhere quite easily (MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, etc.). Sites which might be of special interest for you are the US and UK stores, where you can find loads of Eels stuff to buy. Don’t expect a very quick delivery though….
