The Eels fansite community is astonished. Our friends over at EELS.NL have finally relaunched their amazing website. They are “trying to get a complete list of all known EELS performances and completing the lists with with setlists, reviews and pictures.” Furthermore the site features detailed information regarding E’s solo work and really interesting interviews. Certainly one of the best. Please note that the site is by far not yet completed and that they will be updating constantly over the next couple of weeks and months.

Fri Dec 28 2007: An Evening with Butch
Good news coming in. Apparently, favourite (ex-)bandmember Butch Norton will be joining the Eels on one of their (soon to be officially announced) L.A. shows on their “An Evening with Eels” tour next spring.
Butch:“I will, most likely, “drop in” on ONE show in los angeles (to be determined by his “e”ness). i’m starting to record with lucinda so i will definetely not be touring with the eels.”

Speaking of Butch: Remember that Lucinda Williams show in September with E joining in? HERE is the original setlist of that night.

Check all the dates plus exact locations on a Google Map HERE.

Mon Dec 17 2007: Mark Edwards is the man
“Who’s the man?”, you say? Mark Edwards from “The Sunday Times” is. He wrote an incredible text about the Eels’ upcoming best-of and rarities collections, to be found on the OFFICIAL EELS PAGE. This might be one of the finest attempts to analyze and sum up Eels music. Furthermore, enjoy preview samplers of both “Meet The Eels” and “Useless Trinkets” on the same page.

Sun Dec 02 2007: Watch a “From the basement” clip
More news about E’s upcoming appearance on “From The Basement” is coming in. The official FROM THE BASEMENT site reports that they left their “London base for a trip to Bob Clearmountain’s Berkeley Street Studio in Los Angeles for the finale of the first series of From The Basement [...] E from The Eels decides to perform a host of incredible new songs.” Furthermore, the site features a clip of E playing “It’s A Motherfucker” on the show. This is certainly something to look forward to.

UPDATE: According to Sky Arts E’s performance was recorded about a month ago in the L.A. studio mentioned above.

Fri Nov 30 2007: E on “From the basement”
The TV channel Sky Arts is broadcasting the show “From The Basement”, which features live sessions by a variety of artists. It’s been recorded in high-definition at Maida Vale studios in London with live sound by renowned record producer Nigel Godrich. From The Basement has no host and no studio audience, instead the artist and their performance take centre stage. On January 5th E will be on the show (NME, TLOBF, FTB.tv).

UPDATE: Sky Arts informs us about the songlist of this episode. And if they are right about it, this will be an exciting show for every Eels fan. Among the classics “Cheaters Guide To Your Heart” and “It’s A Motherfucker” we will get to watch E playing a previously unreleased and unknown song called “Millcent Don’t Blame Yourself”. But please remember that we shouldn’t get too excited about it until the show actually airs or the official site comments about this.

Check out E’s very nice and heartwarming article on Times Online, where he talks about the upcoming documentary and his father’s life. Click HERE.

Tue Nov 20 2007: BBC Interview with E
It’s not important whether the upcoming documentary will be called “The rock star and the quantum mechanic”, “Parallel Universes, Parallel Lives” or indeed “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives”. The one thing we can be sure of is that it is going to be very interesting for all Eels (and non-Eels) fans. Need one more prove? Listen to E’s interview with BBC Radio 2 HERE.

Sat Nov 17 2007: Word magazine
The december issue of Word magazine features an article about the upcoming documentary about E and his father, quantum physicist Hugh Everett III. According to them the film will air on November 30th on BBC4 and has been renamed to “The rock star and the quantum mechanic”. Read this nice article HERE (JPG File, Size 3MB).

Sat Nov 10 2007: Ticket Sale starts today
For most of the shows of the “AN EVENING WITH EELS” Tour the ticket sale has started today. To this date not much is known on how the concerts will be regarding line-up and setlists and so on. We can assume that this tour will have rather laid-back shows as most of the venues are seated. But who knows? The Eels have managed to surprise us more than once in the past. (Click HERE to check out Eels’ tour venues on Google Maps)

Tue Nov 06 2007: EELS TOUR 2008
YEAH! Our prayers have been heard and answered. As we’ve already suggested in our news post a month ago, Eels are going to tour in 2008. The official site has confirmed loads of European DATES. Feel free to jump for joy as we do at our Rocking Eels headquarters here in Vienna.

Tue Nov 06 2007: The Galaxy/Temporary Eels Forum
Good news coming in for Eels fans around the globe: Firstly, the great GALAXY has been redesigned and restructured. If you are looking for a very extensive database of Eels music that’s the place to be for you. Stunning! As we’ve heard, additional features, like user interactivity, will be added soon.

Furthmore, since “Jeannie’s Diary” is down at the moment (see news below) a temporary Eels forum has been installed. It is called “Estranged Friends” and can be found HERE.

Fri Nov 02 2007: “BehindTheChurch.com” down
You may be wondering why our friends over at BTC/Jeannie’s Diary are not accessible at the moment. Webmaster Mike has told us that “the entire database was wiped out, either by nefarious means or simply by my webhost’s carelessness when they were upgrading their servers. [...] The board’s information is GONE, so it looks like we’ll be starting from scratch again.” Although these are quite dissapointing news we can tell you that this awesome place of fan gathering will be back soon.

Mon Oct 29 2007: Audio-Book postponed (or even cancelled?)
Disappointing news coming in. The publisher of the once-planned audio-book of E’s upcoming book “Things The Grandchildren Should Know” (Little Brown Book Group) has informed us that the release of said audio version has been postponed to January 2009. “There is a slight chance that it may come forward but it doesn’t seem likely. We are keen for E to read it but he’s not. He has suggested a couple of high profile names but nothing has happened on that front yet. We feel it does need someone high-profile and if these issues can’t be resolved we may abandon it altogether.”
This is disappointing because something very special might have come out of that. The release date of the book itself is still in January, as far as we know. Check back for more news or wait for announcements from the official Eels site.

Thu Oct 25 2007: Documentary Information

This makes us even more excited about this sure to be astonishing book.

Wed Sep 12 2007: E & Lucinda Williams
Last Sunday E joined Lucinda Williams, Butch and The Chet on stage at the El Rey theater in L.A. Together they performed Lucinda’s “Fancy Funeral” as well as “Railroad Man” and “Sixteen Tons”. Reactions from fans are, as expected, very positive:

  • “E’s appearance was a delightful surprise. Lucinda introduced him by saying that she didn’t even know his real name, but that he was one of our best singer/songwriters. Then E played keyboards for one of her songs. Then E took up the guitar and Lucinda did backup vocals on a sloppy but fun version of the country song 16 Tons. Then Lucinda and most of the musicians left the stage. E played a very nice version of Railroad Man.”
  • “I thought E was great though…he was an amazing guitarist, and I really enjoyed the Eels song that he sang”
  • “The Merle Travis tune Sixteen Tons led by E was amazing; E’s song Railroad Man was great.”

We also found a PHOTO OF E from the show. If you have any material (photos, videos, bootlegs, reports) from this very special evening, please contact us.

Wed Sep 05 2007: Eels Songs Poll 2007

Please join in and tell the world your thoughts about Eels’ best songs ever produced. More information after the JUMP.

Sat Sep 01 2007: More news regarding E & Butch on stage
Details are coming in about E and Butch on stage with LUCINDA WILLIAMS. E will be playing with Lucinda and Butch on the 9th of September at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. If you live in the L.A. area you might check out this very rare opportunity. They will be joined by Robbie Krieger (guitarist from The Doors) and The Chet, who will continue to be in the band on Lucinda’s European tour dates in November.

Fri Aug 10 2007: E & Butch together on stage
Some phenomenal news coming in, especially for fans in California. The long time Eels member (and finest drummer on earth) Jonathan “Butch” Norton and E are finally reunited again, even if only for an evening. These days Butch is working with an artist by the name of LUCINDA WILLIAMS, and they are touring right now. Lucinda & Butch are doing some special shows at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on September 5, 6, 8, 9 & 10. E will be a guest artist on one of the shows. So if you’re around in L.A. don’t miss out these very special evenings.

Wed Aug 08 2007: “TTGSK” Audio Book: Release Date Confusion
As the publisher of E’s upcoming memoires (Little Brown Book Group) tell us, the audio book will indeed be published in March 2008. However, AMAZON still lists the item as January 2008 release. Better we wait for announcements from the guys at the official site. Further details of the audio book: 5 CD set, reader yet to be confirmed.

In other news, we are very sad to announce that our friends over at EELS ITALIA have decided to put their work on this fantastic fansite on a hold. Thanks for this great site and the support over the years. Grazie!

Tue July 31 2007: “The Who” liner notes by Mr.E
They first met during the Eels’ “No Strings Attached Tour”, had some lovely chats on “In the Attic”, performed together on a phenomenal concert in L.A. in November ‘06, and now E even writes the liner notes on their latest DVD. Yes, one might say they’ve become something like friends. E and The Who. As the official Eels site reports, E wrote some lines for the new “The Who” tour documentary film (fan club) DVD “Fragments” (COVER, VIDEO SNEAK PREVIEWS).
Read E’s words HERE.

Sun Apr 15 2007: Eels on Shrek 3 Soundtrack
After “My Beloved Monster” and “I Need Some Sleep” the Eels once again contribute a song for the successful Shrek franchise. At least that’s what we here from the famous movie site JoBlo.com, which had a SHREK 3 SET VISIT a few weeks ago:

What song are you using in the opening sequence?
Warner: The song at the beginning is an Eels song that they wrote for our film, that’s really great.
Miller: We’re thrilled to have it in there.
Warner: Yeah, we’re thrilled to have it in there. The big challenge of writing a song for the beginning of this film is Shrek’s doing something that he doesn’t like, so it’s not a happy, everything-is-great song, but you want it to be upbeat and fun. But he turned around and was one of the few people who was able to nail it right out of the gate, so he did a great job.”

We are all looking forward to this. This is great. But let us remind you, that this is no official news until its confirmed by the official Eels site.
