Fri Dec 26 2008: A Man Moving On
In a recent 20 acts back in 2009 article in “The Sun” it says EELS: The mercurial E (aka Mark Oliver Everett) drew a line under his career thus far with two recent compilations. His new Eels album will be the sound of a man moving on.” Thanks to our friend Schlomo who puts it best saying “Do they know something we don’t?”.

Tue Dec 23 2008: Merry Christmas
The RockingEels.com team wishes merry christmas to everyone. Have an awesome time with your loved ones.

Mon Dec 15 2008: Yes Man
Tomorrow the original motion picture soundtrack of YES MAN hits the stores. You can order it at AMAZON.COM. Read a nice article about it HERE. Among other things, the article says that “the score for the film (not included on the soundtrack disc, unfortunately) is comprised of EELS instrumental tracks and other new music by E and Lyle Workman.” There’s also a nice quote from director Peyton Reed. “When I thought of the musical sound of this movie, I thought of EELS. The characters in Yes Man inhabit the same parts of LA that E’s music treads: Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Echo Park.”
“Yes Man” opens in the US upcoming Friday, December 19th. The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER says it is “Carrey’s most satisfying live-action effort since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. Go see it!

Tue Nov 18 2008: It’s time to Man Up
The official Eels MYSPACE SITE has added a very cool feature. You can listen to the whole Eels catalogue on their new MySpace music player. This means you can also enjoy the new Eels song “Man Up”. So hop over to MySpace and listen to this nice tune, which will be featured on the “Yes Man” soundtrack, coming out on December 9th. Our comment? Two thumbs up!

Sat Nov 15 2008: Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives on BBC4
On upcoming Monday BBC FOUR is showing the award-winning documentary “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” again. Check it out at 23:10 and enjoy this wonderful film about E on his quest across America to learn about the father he never knew.

Thu Nov 13 2008: E’s WMNF 88.5 FM Interview
Yesterday E’s interview with the “Wednesday Sonic Detour” aired on WMNF 88.5 FM. They talked about his “In the attic” appearance, his autobiography, the documentary (E: “Hopefully the BBC version of the documentary will be out on DVD eventually.”), the upcoming “Yes Man” soundtrack and about the (sad) fact that there are no plans for another Eels album yet. Listen to this nice talk (~25min) HERE.

Wed Nov 12 2008: Man Up
The new Eels song, to be featured in the movie YES MAN, is called “Man Up”. The soundtrack also features other classic Eels songs: “Bus Stop Boxer”, “To Lick Your Boots”, “The Good Old Days”, “The Sound Of Fear”, “Wooden Nickels”, “Flyswatter”, “Blinking Lights (For Me)” and “Somebody Loves You”. This looks like a really nice Eels compilation CD (with some added “Munchausen By Proxy” songs). It will hit the stores on December 9th.

Mon Nov 10 2008: The Who’s newly adopted son
More reviews and photos of E’s “In the attic” appearance are coming in. It really seems that this was a very special evening. It was “[...] another dizzying display of the beauty and magic when you put these people on the stage with Pete [Townshend]“, says one reviewer of “Rachel and Pete’s newly adopted son E from Eels, or as he is now known, ET.” Thanks to our friend Chad who told us more about the show (“I was very impressed with E’s performance and his humor on stage.”) and sent in two great photos of ET (#1#2). For more information, reviews and photos of this extraordinary show, click on the following links: LONGLIVEROCK.ORGREUTERSFLICKR.COM

Mon Nov 10 2008: Yes Man!
It appears like E’s involvement in the production of the soundtrack to Jim Carrey’s YES MAN is much deeper than expected. Along with Lyle Workman and Mike Sawitzke, E wrote the original score of said film. “I engineered the original score written by Lyle Workman and E. The movie contains original score that was a collaboration between the two of them, as well as many Eels songs. There is a new original song by E as well.”, says Sawitzke. The title of the new Eels song should be publicly announced soon.

Sun Nov 09 2008: E to be featured on WMNF 88.5 FM
On November 12th the “Wednesday Sonic Detour” on WMNF 88.5 FM will feature an interview with E. Hopefully, E will talk about the future of Eels, for instance about the announced new song which will be featured on the next Jim Carrey movie (YES MAN). Who knows? Anyway, be sure to CHECK IT OUT. The radio station calls Eels “a cult band housing a truly major talent”. How right they are…

Sun Nov 09 2008: E astounds at “In the attic”
E gave a phenomenal performance Friday night at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, joining such acts as Pete Townshend, Rachel Fuller, Ben Gibbard, Zooey Deschanel, M. Ward, Jakob Dylan and Mike Campbell. He played “Girl From The North Country”, “Bus Stop Boxer” and “Let My Love Open The Door” (w/ Townshend and Gibbard). For some photos hop over to WIREIMAGE.COM. Early reports are that it was a stunning performance and great night for all. Check out VARIETY.COM for a review, pictures and the setlist of the show.
A visitor, Chad, tells us that he “was very impressed – E was great! [...] after playing “Girl From North Country”, E apologized to Jakob Dylan (who was no longer in stage) for playing one of his dad’s songs, saying that he’d been rehearsing all week and didn’t know Jakob would be there that night. He then said sorry if it was uncomfortable, because he’d sure find it uncomfortable if someone got up on stage and read one of his father’s theses on parallel universes. It was great.” This really sounds great. We’ll add some photos of E soon. To look at some videos of Pete Townshend’s “In the attic” performance check out Chad’s YOUTUBE CHANNEL.

PS: E’s BEARD totally rocks!

Mon Nov 03 2008: New Song & Live Appearance
Jim Carrey’s next comedy film YES MAN is going to feature a number of Eels classics and a brand new song. The movie is about a guy who challenges himself to say “Yes!” to everything for an entire year. It opens on December 19th in the States and in January in Europe.
Furthermore, Pete Townshend and his wife Rachel Fuller once again present In the Attic, an exclusive one-night event at the Troubadour club in Los Angeles on November 7th. E is set to perform with them.

Fri Oct 24 2008: Parallel Worlds LIVE Sountrack
While the US iTunes store is offering a soundtrack including all the Eels music heard in the award-winning documentary, we have a special download for you. Most of you have those studio recordings featured in the documentary anyway, so we compiled a different collection regarding the music featured in this great documentary. DOWNLOAD NOW the “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” Live Soundtrack which includes almost all songs of the original soundtrack as live bootleg recordings. This collection holds a variety of different Eels eras and should be fun to listen to. Enjoy!

Thu Oct 23 2008: Largo Film Screening
For all those of you living in London, here’s a special hot tip for you: LARGO, a tribute film to the club in Los Angeles which has hosted a large community of musicians and comedians from Colin Hay, Fiona Apple, Jon Brion, Aimee Mann to Sarah Silverman, Greg Proops, Louis CK, John C. Reilly and many many more. You might also know that E is a well-known performer at Largo’s. This film is currently shown on the “The Times BFI London Film Festival”, and it actually features E performing “It’s a motherfucker”. So go there and check it out on the UPCOMING SATURDAY AND MONDAY.

Tue Oct 21 2008: Phenomenal Vinyl Set
A limited and signed “Blinking Lights & Other Revelations” vinyl set is now available in the US STORE. It includes 3 LPs and another one with an exclusive 17 track live album, “Manchester 2005″, recorded at the famous “Eels with strings – Not-Rocktober Tour”. This surely is a very nice release, but be careful: The set is limited to 2500 copies. For those who don’t want to order the item, you can download the 4-track MANCHESTER 2005 EP for free (but for one week only).

By the way, if you are living in the US, don’t forget that PBS is airing the “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” documentary tonight. Read about it here: AOLLA TIMESUSA TODAY

Sun Oct 19 2008: News Roundup
Instead of waiting for the actual CD release of the audiobook one can download it for a decent price in the iTunes store. Buy HERE. Furthermore, you can enjoy some very interesting articles about the documentary and the autobiography: WALL STREET JOURNALLA TIMESNY TIMESBOSTON GLOBE

Thu Oct 16 2008: More Audiobook News
As the publisher of “Things The Grandchildren Should Know: A Memoir” (Blackstone Audio) reports, the audiobook “contains songs performed by Eels guitarist The Chet”. While looking forward to this, you can listen to a sample (2 minutes) of the audiobook right HERE.

Wed Oct 15 2008: Audiobook Cover
The audiobook of E’s autobiography “Things the grandchildren should know”, which yesterday was finally released in America as well, can be pre-ordered on AMAZON.COM. Although a release date of October 14th is stated, the 4CD set will probably not be shipped before early November. At least we can have a look at the wonderful COVER artwork of this set.

Sun Oct 12 2008: Out Now! “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” DVD
We don’t really know whether our PETITION had anything to do with it (probably not), but the excellent documentary about E and his father, “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” has been released on DVD, apparently. As part of the NOVA series, this DVD can be ordered HERE. The price is horrendous, though: $44.95! So it looks like we finally got the proper DVD release of this wonderful film more than 300 people wished for in the petition started by us. This is great news.

UPDATE 15-10: The internet is a strange place. First a DVD of the documentary was announced (with COVER), now it’s been denied. PBS informs us that “unfortunately, the DVD will not be available to the public through the PBS shop. The petition is related to the BBC release rather than the NOVA one. However, the show will be available for free streaming in full from the NOVA Web site for one week after it premieres on October 21.” So let’s hope someday the BBC is wise enough to release this documentary. Sorry for raising hopes, but the DVD was already in the PBS shop to order when we announced the news. What a bummer!

Sun Oct 12 2008: Bootlegs for Download
We’ve uploaded two very special bootlegs from different eras of the Eels’ tour history. During the 2000 Respect the rock tour E had do some solo shows, due to budgetary reasons, to promote the Daisies Of The Galaxy album. He opened for Fiona Apple and introduced himself to the audience by saying “Hello ladies and gentlemen. We’re the EELS!”. Those shows were unique. One of them, the one of E performing in Asheville, is now available for download. Furthermore, we added a great bootleg of Eels’ appearance at the Reading Festival in 1997. You can get your hands on both of these wonderful recordings right HERE.

Tue Oct 07 2008: Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives
In two weeks (October 21st) PBS is going to air “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” as part of their NOVA series. Check out their OFFICIAL SITE for more information, nice photos and a substantial interview with the author of the biography of E’s father, quantum physicist Hugh Everet III. If you also want to have this great documentary on DVD click HERE.

Mon Oct 06 2008: Catch Butch & The Chet on tour!
These days two of the most influential persons in the Eels history are on the road with the American rock/folk singer Lucinda Williams: Butch Norton and The Chet. They are touring the United States in the fall and, according to Butch, will come to Europe next spring/summer (for exact tour dates check out her MYSPACE SITE). To get into the right mood check out their great performance on DAVID LETTERMAN from last week, where Butch proved that he’s still the godfather of percussion. LUCINDA WILLIAMS is going to release her new album “Little Honey” next week.

Thu Oct 02 2008: Good Lord, it’s official at last!
It has been rumoured for almost a year and our RockingEels.com team announced this release already several weeks ago. Now the audiobook edition of “Things The Grandchildren Should Know” (published by BLACKSTONE AUDIO) has finally been confirmed by the official site. As reported, the reader is The Chet, the duration of the whole set is 4.3 hours and it will come out on November, 07th. One can pre-order this wonderful item RIGHT HERE.

Thu Oct 02 2008: Mrs. Miller reviews and Eels downloads
As the official Eels site mentions several reviews on “Mrs. Miller does her thing” can be found. Have a look at them HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.
Also, we’ve added the latest tour collection compiled by our friend El Turbo. You can download all songs that were performed on the “An evening with Eels” tour in the best quality available RIGHT HERE
Furthermore, we’d like to make you aware of our substantial YOUTUBE CHANNEL once more. Our latest additions include some rare interviews with E.

Wed Sep 10 2008: Audiobook Update/Documentary on PBS
BLACKSTONE AUDIO has informed us that the recording process of the audiobook of E’s memoirs is well under way. “The Chet is the only reader” of the 7 CD set and from what the publishers have heard so far “he is doing a beautiful job.” Also, “there will be no music included in the recording as this gets into a rights issue that becomes very complicated.” One can pre-order this wonderful item RIGHT HERE.

As we all know by now (due to the massive coverage by the official Eels site) the BAFTA and RTS Award-winning BBC documentary “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” about E and his quantum physicist father, Hugh Everett III, will air in America on PBS as part of the acclaimed NOVA series October 21st. However, few will know that E (and the film’s senior executive producer, Paula S. Apsell) attended the PBS portion of the Television Critics Association press tour on July 13, 2008 in Beverly Hills, California. Here are photos of that day: 12

Mon Sep 08 2008: The Chet reads E’s book
According to the publisher (Blackstone Audiobooks) of the long-rumoured audiobook of E’s memoirs, “Things The Grandchildren Should Know”, no less a figure than The Chet will be featured as the voice who reads all those stories from the life of Mark Oliver Everett. The audiobook is set to be released on NOVEMBER 7TH. But, please, don’t pin us down to those details. Let’s wait until the official site comments about it.

Mon Sep 08 2008: Rocking Eels is back
Summer’s almost over, RockingEels.com is back! How’s things? Really? Oh well…
So what has been going on? E has helped to create a theatre piece on MRS. MILLER DOES HER THING (tickets HERE). Moreover, a “From the basement” DVD featuring two of the three performed Eels songs is going to be RELEASED in November. Looks like a nice christmas present for your friends. Oh, and there’s a very (very) weird ad on YouTube for the American release of E’s autobiography THINGS THE GRANDCHILDREN SHOULD KNOW.
That’s all for now. We’ll be updating the site in the weeks to come. Maybe we’ll offer a few more bootlegs for all the Eels-Live lovers out there….

Tue July 22 2008: Rock Hard Times
After releasing two wonderful box sets, writing a best-selling autobiography, appearing in a documentary about his father and touring the world for the first time ever in the band’s history as a two-men combo, not much is going on in the world of Eels these days. E was featured on NPR’s The Sound of Young America radio show. You can listen to the show HERE. Furthermore, he appeared at the Book Expo America on May 31st, giving the visitors the opportunity to get their copies of E’s memoirs signed.

Speaking of “Things the Grandchildren should know”: The autobiography, which is also in the process of being translated into ten different languages around the world, is finally going to be released by THOMAS DUNNE BOOKS in the US on October 14th. While pre-ordering it at AMAZON.com you will notice that the US-edition has a different-coloured COVER.

Since the release of this book rumours of an audio-book edition have been floating around on various places on the internet. It seems like it is actually going to be produced now. Apparently BLACKSTONE AUDIO is going to release this audio-book on NOVEMBER 7TH. But don’t pin us down to those figures. Let’s wait until the official site comments about it.

We at RockingEels.com are taking a summer break now and will update the site rather seldom. We will be back in action in September. Have a fantastic summer, wherever you are.

PS: In the meantime, you might find enjoyment in visiting our substantial YOUTUBE CHANNEL, and the INTERNATIONAL or GERMAN message board. Moreover, we would be happy about your further support of the DVD PETITION of “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives”.

Mon June 23 2008: A big round of applause for E, please
Once again E has proven what a nice guy he is. Watch THIS video of him performing “Railroad Man” for Anthony, a 15 year old Eels fan who passed away on May 20th due to his suffering of spine and brain cancer. “Railroad Man” was Anthony’s favourite song and this performance was filmed for the memorial service on June 22nd. E met with this “bright and funny EELS fan” backstage before the Eels concert on April 14th in San Francisco. Anthony gave E a stuffed moose dog toy for E’s dog, Bobby, Jr., who has a lovely appearance in the video as well.
Moreover, please be so kind to consider supporting HOPE, Anthony’s charity that supplies the nurses at UCSF’s oncology ward with small gifts to give kids with cancer.

Mon June 09 2008: World Science Festival
Not a lot going on these days in the Eels world. E attended the “World Science Festival” in New York on May 29th. Apparently he had an interesting debate over the significance of his father’s many worlds theory with theoretical physicists Michio Kaku and Max Tegmark, and physicist/moderator Brian Cox. The festival also marked the American premiere screening of the BAFTA-winning “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” (Please join the DVD PETITION). Here are some photos of E’s appearance: CLICK

Sun May 04 2008: Sydney Bootleg/World Science Festival

E is scheduled to attend “The World Science Festival” in New York on May 29th for the official American premiere of the BBC film about his father, “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives”. To get more information on this event click HERE. If you want to support the petition concerning a DVD release of this wonderful documentary please click HERE.

Fri Apr 25 2008: “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives” DVD Petition

Thu Mar 20 2008: RTS award for “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives”
The documentary about E and his father, quantum physicist Hugh Everett III, won the award for a documentary in science and natural history at the “RTS PROGRAMME AWARDS”, which were presented last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
“Weaving together an emotional odyssey with an exploration of some of the most challenging front-line science was an audacious idea, but this film pulled it off magnificently.”

In addition, the film has been nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award. The BAFTAs awards ceremony will be held at the London Palladium, April 20th.

Sat Mar 15 2008: Eels at Royal Festival Hall
Download now the wonderful bootleg of the Eels’ recent concert at Royal Festival Hall in London. One can find it in our DOWNLOADS section. Thanks very much to Andy.

Fri Mar 14 2008: Eels song used in TV commercial
E has always denied ongoing requests to use EELS songs in commercials: “I absolutely refuse to license my music for commercial television, but I’m okay with authorizing use of my songs for public service announcements and motion picture soundtracks.”
However, from time to time Eels songs are used for advertisements without E’s permission. Just think of the incident in 2001 when a Spanish shopping center used “I like birds” in a horrific manner. (Read all about it HERE) These days another shockingly bad commercial, using “Souljacker Part I”, is being aired all the time in the U.K. To watch this mess either click HERE or HERE.

Meanwhile, the “An evening with Eels” tour is well under way, giving pleasure to fans all over Europe and, soon, to folks in Australia and the U.S., too. After inviting the Queen to his gig in London (a Queen lookalike eventually attended), E recently sent a letter to George W. Bush, inviting him to the upcoming concert in Washington, D.C. Read this very ironic letter HERE.

Mon Mar 10 2008: Eels in Vienna/New Downloads
Two years ago the Eels totally rocked Vienna, where the RockingEels.com’s headquarters are. Today E and The Chet finally come back again and appear in Vienna’s WUK. This could be a very special evening on the “An evening with Eels” tour, as the venue’s capacity of 300 people might lead to a very intimate atmosphere.
By the way, if you’re looking for reviews of a gig you’ve attended, THIS forum might be helpful, as it features a collection of articles about the Eels’ current tour.

In other news: The documentary about E and his father, “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives”, has been nominated for the Royal Television Society Award (RTS). For more information on this subject and the full list of nominees click HERE.

Rocking Eels Update: We’ve added two new bootlegs of the current tour for download. More after the JUMP.
